Interview tips for Delhi NCR employers

LESSON 01

Build a consulting-style fintech finding

Create a synthetic fintech-style application in an owned isolated lab, using fake account records and no payment connectivity. Test whether one ordinary test user can access another test user’s record through an intended application interface. Define the authorised scope before testing. This portfolio suits a consulting orientation because it shows how you turn a technical observation into a clear finding without exposing real customer data or services.

Follow a disciplined sequence: restate the suspected access-control issue, reproduce it safely, verify the cause and assess severity in context. OWASP Top 10:2025 places Broken Access Control at A01, but the category alone does not determine business priority. Separate technical severity from exposure, asset importance and exploitation evidence. Do not claim a vulnerability is actively exploited merely because your own controlled test reproduced the behaviour.

Write the finding for both an engineer and a risk owner. Include prerequisites, minimal synthetic evidence, affected behaviour, a proposed server-side authorisation fix and a retest plan. Choose fix, defer, accept or false positive only with supporting reasons and appropriate ownership. If residual risk remains, explain it plainly. Keep screenshots free of secrets, and do not upload confidential assessment evidence to public analysis or sharing tools.

  1. Set up two test users and fake records in an owned application.
  2. Check the intended record-access boundary using the lab's authorised interface.
  3. Document reproduction, contextual severity and a server-side remediation.
  4. Retest both permitted and forbidden access after the change.
Expected lab observation
The initial deliberately flawed lab may allow cross-user access; the corrected version should reject it while preserving legitimate access. Record actual lab results rather than assuming success.
Common mistake
Publishing a severity label without verified behaviour, business context or a retest.

LESSON 02

Run a verified consulting or public-recruitment application workflow

Separate consulting, fintech and public recruitment applications into different verification tracks. For consulting, identify the service line, expected deliverables and client-facing duties. For fintech, identify the systems and control responsibilities involved. For public recruitment, locate the official notification and confirm the post, eligibility, selection stages and application route. These checks establish process facts; a sector association or forwarded advertisement does not establish that an opening is genuine.

For every role, map the requirements to your evidence and mark gaps before applying. A consulting application can foreground a finding report and stakeholder explanation, while a monitoring role needs investigation and escalation evidence. Follow the actual eligibility instructions rather than assuming a certification substitutes for a required qualification. Check official amendments and dates yourself, and keep copies of the documents on which you based the application.

Verify the employing entity and distinguish direct employment from staffing or client deployment. Independently navigate to the official application channel instead of trusting an unsolicited payment link. If an official process lists an application fee, confirm the instructions there; do not generalise that every fee is fraudulent. Keep identity documents private, record what you submitted and avoid sharing authentication codes with anyone claiming to accelerate selection.

  1. Classify the recruitment route and verify its official source independently.
  2. Read eligibility, selection stages and amendments before preparing the application.
  3. Map role tasks to evidence without assuming credentials replace mandatory requirements.
  4. Confirm employer, contract model, submission channel and any officially documented fee.
Expected lab observation
You should have a traceable application record and know which requirements, employment terms and process details have been independently verified.
Common mistake
Trusting a logo, forwarded notification or intermediary's claim instead of checking the official process.

LESSON 03

Interview tabletop: high-severity finding and uncertain reporting duties

Use a tabletop where a synthetic client receives a high-severity access-control report shortly before a release. The interviewer asks whether to block deployment and notify regulators immediately. Start by verifying the finding, affected assets, exposure, exploitation evidence and your decision authority. Explain that CVSS technical severity is one input, not a complete risk decision. A reproduced flaw also does not automatically establish that a reportable incident occurred.

Present a treatment recommendation with an accountable owner, compensating controls, residual risk and a retest. If incident indicators exist, involve the designated response and compliance teams promptly. CERT-In’s 2022 Directions address listed incidents within six hours of noticing or being brought to notice, and applicable ICT logs require rolling 180-day retention within India. These requirements are distinct from DPDP obligations; do not merge their triggers or timelines.

For DPDP questions, state that phased commencement and applicability must be checked by legal against official Gazette notifications and official resources. Do not invent a universal effective date or provide legal advice. Practise with synthetic evidence and a mock decision meeting, recording who can approve release or containment. The expected answer combines technical verification, contextual priority, timely escalation and clearly bounded responsibility rather than an unsupported regulatory declaration.

  1. Verify the finding and distinguish vulnerability evidence from incident evidence.
  2. Assess exposure, asset importance, controls and residual risk.
  3. Escalate potentially applicable reporting questions to designated legal and compliance owners promptly.
  4. Record treatment authority, retest criteria and unresolved applicability questions.
Expected lab observation
Expected answer: verify and contextualise the finding, recommend owned treatment, escalate incident obligations promptly and distinguish CERT-In Directions from phased DPDP applicability.
Common mistake
Treating a CVSS score as an automatic legal reporting trigger or assuming all DPDP duties are already effective.

LESSON 04

Verify NCR offers, client travel and relocation

Request a written offer breakdown covering fixed pay, variable pay, shift or on-call components, joining payments and benefits included in CTC. For consulting work, clarify how travel expenses and client-site allowances are handled. For contractual arrangements, verify which entity employs and pays you. Do not equate a client name with direct employment there, and do not treat reimbursements or conditional bonuses as guaranteed monthly take-home income.

Price relocation around the actual assigned NCR location and attendance pattern. Obtain current quotations for housing, deposits, temporary accommodation, commuting and moving. Include likely client travel only where the role confirms it, and ask how expenses are advanced or reimbursed. A remote or hybrid description needs written clarification about onboarding, required office days, client visits and the possibility of reassignment before you commit to a lease.

Practise with fictional offers that differ in fixed pay, conditional components and travel obligations. Compare monthly cash flow, upfront costs and administrative uncertainty rather than choosing by headline CTC. Confirm probation, notice terms and any joining-payment recovery provisions in the written documents. Independently verify requests to submit identity records or make payments, and seek qualified advice for contractual concerns instead of relying on a recruiter’s verbal interpretation.

  1. Verify the employing and payroll entities and separate them from client branding.
  2. Break compensation into fixed, conditional, one-time and reimbursement components.
  3. Confirm office, client travel and work-mode terms before obtaining relocation quotes.
  4. Compare fictional offers and list unresolved written-contract questions.
Expected lab observation
You should understand who employs you, where you will work and which compensation components can reasonably support recurring expenses.
Common mistake
Accepting a client-deployment role under the assumption that it is direct employment with the client.

Frequently asked questions

Does a public-sector-looking message prove a genuine recruitment process?

No. Independently verify the recruiting body's official notification, application route and any corrigenda. Treat forwarded messages and logos as unverified.

Is a high CVSS score enough to prioritise a finding?

No. CVSS represents technical severity. Exploitation evidence, exposure, asset importance and compensating controls influence practical priority.

Is zero trust something I can buy and list as implemented?

Zero trust is not a single product. Explain the access decisions, identity checks, least privilege and verification mechanisms you actually designed or tested.

How should I handle different NCR work locations?

Ask for the assigned office, client travel expectations and attendance rules in writing. Compare actual routes and costs rather than treating NCR as one commute.
